Voordat u begint met centreren, controleert u het wiel op hoogteslagen en zijslagen. Span het te centreren wiel in en zet de voeler in de startpositie. Bij de eerste draaiing van het wiel worden de aanwezige zijde- en hoogteslag vastgesteld.
