Let op: uitsluitend speelbaar wanneer je het bordspel Ticket to Ride of Ticket to Ride Europe reeds in bezit hebt, want je hebt de treintjes en treinkaarten van dit spel nodig. Met deze Ticket to Ride Map Expansion kan je treinroutes leggen dwars door Afrika. Hiervoor moeten de spelers door het oerwoud, door de woestijn en over de bergen reizen. Nieuw bij deze uitbreiding is dat de waarde van routes verdubbeld kunnen worden met behulp van terrein kaarten. The Heart of Africa bevat 48 nieuwe bestemmingskaarten.
