De mannelijke dieren hebben een opvallend grote neus die maar liefst 10 cm lang kan worden. Maar ze kunnen er niet echt goed mee ruiken. Onderzoekers denken dat de neus ertoe dient om indruk te maken op de vrouwtjes. Neusapen zijn zoogdieren die overdag actief zijn. Ze leven in kleine groepen en voeden zich met bladeren en vruchten.
