De ijsbeer is een grote beersoort die voorkomt in de ijsvelden in de Noordelijke IJszee. Het is de grootste berensoort ter wereld (met uitzondering van de Kodiak-bruine beren die in Alaska voorkomen, die vergelijkbare maten kunnen bereiken) met mannetjes die vaak rond de 600 kg wegen. Gedacht wordt dat de ijsbeer nauw verwant is aan de bruine beer, de naam van de ijsberen betekent eigenlijk "zeebeer", omdat bekend is dat ze niet alleen veel tijd dicht bij de kust doorbrengen, maar ook sterke en bekwame zwemmers zijn die zijn gezien tot 100 mijl van het dichtstbijzijnde ijs of land. 13 x 4 x 6 cm
