Het bevat tevens een aantal uitgekiende smeermiddelen om het weg wassen van de smerende bestanddelen in de gebruikelijke brandstoffen op te vangen. Deze samenstelling geeft startspiloot de volgende eigenschappen: • Een uitstekende verdamping ook bij zeer lage winterse temperaturen • Uitstekende ontstekings eigenschappen van het brandbare mengsel • Er is maar een lage vonkenergie nodig om het mengsel te laten ontsteken. Startpiloot kan voor zowel benzine- als dieselmotoren gebruikt worden indien deze op de gebruikelijke wijze niet willen starten. Quickstart zal tijdens gebruik een uiterst brandbaar, homogeen lucht - brandstofmengsel vormen welke gemakkelijk tot ontsteken kan worden gebracht waarna de verbrandingsmotor op eigen kracht verder kan lopen.
