Gekiemde zaden zijn rijk aan essentiële vetzuren, licht verteerbare koolhydraten en vitaminen (vooral Vitamine-B). Het verstrekken van gekiemde zaden is sterk aan te bevelen, aangezien de meeste vogels er dol op zijn.

Voedingsadvies:
- Zet de zaden in een schone bak in ruim water en laat 18 tot 20 uur weken.
- Spoel de zaden daarna goed af en laat ze uitlekken.
- Laat de zaden op kamertemperatuur staan, eventueel afgedekt met een vochtige doek en nooit in de volle zon.
- Herhaal het afspoelen van de zaden nog een aantal keer (om de 3 uur) om gistvorming te voorkomen.
- Voer de zaden aan de vogels zodra er een kiem van 1-2 mm is ontstaan.
