De Google Nest Protect (2e generatie) is een rookmelder die denkt, spreekt en meldingen naar je telefoon stuurt. De Nest Protect is van top tot teen opnieuw ontworpen. Hij is voorzien van een Split-spectrumsensor, test zichzelf automatisch en gaat tot wel tien jaar mee. De Nest Protect is ook de eerste melder voor huishoudelijk gebruik waarvan je het alarm kan afzetten met je smartphone zonder dat je extra hardware nodig hebt. En hij vertelt je wat het probleem is en kan zelfs een melding naar je telefoon sturen. Als er ergens rook wordt gedetecteerd door de Nest Protect, geeft hij je een gesproken waarschuwing en als er één spreekt, spreken ze allemaal. Zo weet iedereen in huis wat er aan de hand is.
