Vóór april is de temperatuur van de bodem veelal te koud, waardoor het graszaad niet of nauwelijks kiemt. Voorkom dat de grond gedurende twee weken na het doorzaaien uitdroogt. De toplaag moet vochtig zijn. Het gazon mag gedurende de periode van doorzaaien niet belopen worden; normaal gesproken circa twee weken.
