Een klein konijntje gaat alleen per trein naar de stad. Moeder konijn wuift hem na. Het konijntje zit wat sip in het achterste wagentje, helemaal alleen. Maar bij elk station stapt er een ander diertje in en allemaal hebben ze hun eigen reden om naar de stad te gaan. Bij de eindhalte gekomen hollen ze allemaal weg. De machinist en de conducteur doen een dutje onder de klok van het station. Om vier uur komen alle figuurtjes blij terug. De trein vertrekt. Onderweg is het heel gezellig want ze hebben allemaal wel iets leuks meegemaakt. Aan het einde van de rit staat Moeder konijn op het perron te wachten. Ze ziet haar konijntje met een brede lach uitstappen en vraagt: 'Was het fijn in de trein? Wat heb je meegebracht?' Het konijntje slaat zijn armen om de muis met het verbonden pootje en samen roepen ze blij: 'Een vriendje!!!'
