Rosa reist samen met haar familie het land door om op kermissen in theatervoorstellingen te spelen. Maar eigenlijk vindt Rosa toneelspelen verschrikkelijk. Als kleuter moest ze al meedoen en stond ze te huilen op het podium. Nu ze ouder is, speelt ze braaf haar rolletjes, maar ze zou liever bij de draaimolen helpen of achter de kassa zitten. Gelukkig heeft Rosa Teunis, de zeventienjarige jongen die de sterren van de hemel speelt in hun toneelstukken, vooral in de vrouwenrollen. Met hem sluit ze een dierbare vriendschap en ze komt erachter dat hij een groot geheim heeft.
Maar dan krijgt Rosa's vader een ongeluk. Oom Gerrit neemt de leiding over en gedraagt zich als een tiran. Wanneer hij Teunis wil ontslaan, komt Rosa met haar vriend in actie. Zo ontdekt Rosa dat ze toch meer voelt voor het theater dan ze wil toegeven. Lukt het Rosa en Teunis om oom Gerrit te stoppen?
