You place it between the links and the lever will move to one of the levels indicated on the meter. This allows you to assess on a scale whether the chain is worn or will last a long time! How to use: 1. Place the wear gauge left side first (with the size levels) on an inner link of the chain. Then you also place the right side between an inner link. 2. Now you can see whether the pointer on the lever is at the top or bottom of the gauge. This gives a rough indication of how far the chain is worn.
